What Not to Do on a First Date

The first date is your one and only chance to make a good impression on your desired guy or girl. As with all first impressions, you will not get a do-over. Either the two of you will end your first date in each other’s arms, or someone will run for the hills and leave a trail of smoke behind. The following tips should help you to avoid the latter from happening. These are five things that you should never do on a first date:
1. Use the L Word
Love takes quite some time to develop, even though some people attest to love at first sight. Additionally, love can be a touchy subject for men. Saying that you love your date on the first date is a definite way to end the night abruptly. In fact, your date may disappear to the bathroom and never return.
2. Rant Incessantly About Your Ex
Many people make the mistake of trash talking their exes on a first date. Some people believe that such ranting flatters the other party, and some people rant because they are still angry with their exes. Complaining about your ex can turn off your date quickly because he or she will realize that you are still carrying emotional baggage. No one wants to cram another person’s luggage into his or her personal emotional compartments.
3. Get Plastered
Having one drink to break the ice or calm your nerves is acceptable, but getting plastered is a huge no-no. Alcohol can severely affect your judgment. Therefore, you could end up dancing on the table, spouting profanities at your date, vomiting on the floor or worse. Your date will most likely not request a repeat of a drunken date night.
4. Skip Deodorant
Good hygiene is necessary for any date of any kind. Therefore, you must use deodorant. Your date will probably appreciate if you start living your “natural” lifestyle after the two of you have dinner. The sense of smell is the most powerful of all the senses, and it makes unpleasant thoughts linger for a long time. If you present a funky smell to your date on your first meeting, he or she will never forget it. You can almost guarantee that this person will avoid anything that reminds him or her of you—forever.
5. Jump His/her bones
One of the worst things you can do on a first date is make an unwanted sexual advance. You cannot recover from something like that no matter what you say. Your date may be practicing abstinence, or the person may have old-fashioned religious values. If you head straight for that person’s body, then he or she will think that you are only interested in sex. Of course, it could go the other way, and the person may return your “affections,” but such a scenario is highly unlikely.
Remember the aforementioned tips when you go on your first date, and you will have a great time.
