Dating Safety Tips

Whether you’re fresh out of a relationship or have been single for a while and want to get back in the game, dating can be a great way to find the partner of your dreams. You can choose to meet dates the good old fashioned way or through the Internet on an online dating site, but no matter which method that you select, you still need to be careful and take some precautions. By following these dating safety tips for your initial date with a potential partner, you can feel secure and concentrate on getting to know this person and deciding whether you two are a match.

First of all, always choose a public location for your first date. Never let your date select their place or yours for your first meeting. By choosing a public spot, in the case of a date gone awry, you’re among people who can see a bad situation brewing rather than alone at a stranger’s home or apartment where it’s much more difficult to leave.

However, for even more protection, you should let a family member or a friend know where you’ll have your date. You should also inform this person or people of the time of the date. They can choose to subtly be at the restaurant, bar, cafe, or other meeting place if you permit it. Otherwise, at least these people in your life know where you’ll be and how to reach you in case the date doesn’t go well or in case you feel like you’re in any danger at any point.

Although it’s a rather old ideal that a man should pay for a date, as a female you should always have cash or your credit or debit card on you. While most men will pay out of politeness, this isn’t always the case. You could cause a potentially aggressive situation to erupt by not having any money for your half of the bill. Also, some men may believe that because they covered the bill that you may owe them sexual repayment, so to avoid this, always pay for yourself or at least offer to.

Next, you should always make sure that you have your own means of transportation to and from the date. If you own a car, then drive it. If you don’t, then find another way to get to your date and back home. Don’t get in the car with a stranger for your first date. You never know if this person will take you to the actual date location or somewhere else.

In that same vein, you also don’t want a stranger knowing your address. If you do happen to meet someone who isn’t what they seem and could be dangerous, them having such personal information could put you and anyone else who lives at that address in danger. Lastly, you should also avoid giving out other personal information. This includes any financial information like your social security number, credit card, or debit card as well as your email address. You also don’t necessarily have to give your potential date your phone number if you don’t want to.

By following the above dating safety tips, you will take care of yourself when meeting a potential partner for the first time. You should probably follow these same rules for a second or even third date with the same person just to be on the safe side.
